Edmond, WA

On the way to Sequim, after a soaking ride over Stevens Pass (Highway 2), we arrived at the ferry slip in Edmond, WA. Despite our early start today with intentions to have a full afternoon in Sequim, the ferrymaster put on the brakes. The RV would not be allowed on the ferry until 2:30, due to a low tide. The ramp on the other end is too steep at low tide. Thus, we disconnected and Janice and Julie headed off in the CRV, leaving Carly and me sitting on the dock. Checking my trusty compass, it looked like I could get a satellite fix here, so I put up the satellite dish. Voila! Actually, this edition of the blog is being posted as I sit on the dock of the bay....
Good news. House negotiations appear to have concluded. Just waiting for the appraisal and loan approval. Getting tired of this life in limbo!
The charm of the day was interrupted by continuing negotiations on the sale of our house. My blood-pressure skyrocketed—I could feel my face turning red, a fact confirmed by Janice. A quick infusion of chardonnay settled me down, but it was not a sound night’s sleep despite the gurgling river next to us.
Changing the day’s mood, we drove up Icicle Road until it ran out (actually it was washed out) and then hiked about 5 miles round trip up Icicle Gorge Trail along Chatter Creek, enjoying lunch and then turning around further up the trail at a waterfall. Annika enjoyed the hike, splashing in water at every opportunity, and twice starting a descent down the icy stream, saving herself by a frantic but effective dog-paddle. Good technique.
A stay in Leavenworth wouldn't be right without a visit to the local shops. High quality stuff. The MasterCard got a work out. Julie treated for dinner at King Ludwig's, the place most recommended for Deutsche-Essen. The fare included wienerschnitzel, sausage, ham (that looked remarkably like Spam), sauerkraut, red cabbage and red potatoes, plus a taste of beer. Those Germans really put the food away! Followed this up with a couple of scoops of gelato. Exercise to follow.
