R.I.P. Carly

Our sweet dog Carly, who faithfully accompanied us on our journeys and was a frequent focus of this blog, reached her final day on May 17. Our hearts are hurting, but will always be filled by the love and the joy that she brought us.

From Carly's Obituary
Carly the yellow lab was adopted at age 1½. She became a loving companion and member of the Marschner family. She traveled to over 40 states, Canada and Mexico as an RV road-dog in the last 5 years, especially enjoying visits with Julie along the way. Though her always happy face greeted everyone, she was “Julie’s dog,” and she patiently allowed Julie to photograph her in a ridiculous array of costumes and disguises. These pictures then became ‘Carly cards’ for every occasion.
In her younger days, Carly was an exceptional hiker—running ahead on the trail, and then returning to make sure that Jeff and Janice hadn’t stumbled along the way. She enjoyed swimming after sticks thrown in the Sacramento River near her house and for years took daily walks along the levee.
Remarkably, she never spent a night at the kennels. If she couldn’t go on the road herself, she preferred to stay home alone, being visited daily by faithful neighbors.
Her housemate, Amy the Cat, predeceased her, as did her best friend, Maggie, a Schipperke who passed away a month ago . Carly was 14. She lived long and well and died peacefully.
