Onset of Road Trip Fever

With a scheduled departure date a week away (January 28), I am gripped by Road Trip Fever (RTF). Our next adventure starts with a cruise down California (probably Highway 99) with one-night layovers in Bakersfield (Orange Grove RV Park---hope that it's orange pickin' time) and possibly Indio. Then, a couple nights in Yuma to connect with Copper Canyon friends, and then to Quartzite to witness the RV frenzy in the desert.

The 'gem' of this trip is a cross-border venture to Rocky Point Mexico, also known as Puerto Penasco, a mere 66 miles south of the border on the shores of the Sea of Cortez. This junket is a Rally organized by Witasca, the Winnebago-Itasca affinity group. Reports from past trips suggest that this should be a pretty relaxing venture, with mandatory shrimp-chomping and margarita sipping between siestas and walks on the beach. Can do! We will be at the Playa Bonita RV Park from February 6-16. After that, it's back to the US and some wandering around Arizona for awhile.

Road-dog Carly will be making this trip with us, fortified by a supply of Rimadyl (Thanks, Dan!) and SAMe which have loosened up her hips considerably. Her hiking days are over, but she likes her short walks to nearby places to fill up the 'blue bags'.

Carly goes to the vet Sunday for a pre-trip inspection in order to get a Federal Veterinarian's Certificate attesting to her lack of communicable diseases in order to enter Mexico. No requirement for a post-Mexico exam. This will be a good excuse for the Vet to ring up about a $50 charge--just for sticking a thermometer in her rectum and looking in her ears. We promise to keep her 'chaste' south of the border.
